The hardest part of using an AI is the blank screen — that little blinking cursor waiting for you to say something clever. You do not need clever. Here are ten friendly things you can ask on your very first day, copy-and-paste ready.

Ten Prompts to Break the Ice

1. Summarize this for me. Paste a long email, article, or letter and say, “Summarize this in five simple bullet points.” Great for cutting through clutter.

2. Explain it like I am new to it. “Explain how a Roth IRA works, in plain words, no jargon.” You can always add, “Now explain it like I am twelve.”

3. Help me write something. “Draft a short, warm birthday message for my sister who loves gardening.” A first draft is so much easier to fix than a blank page.

4. Make this shorter (or kinder). Paste your own writing: “Make this half as long but keep the friendly tone.”

5. Translate this. “Translate this into Spanish, casual and friendly, the way I would text a friend.”

6. Plan it out for me. “Help me plan a simple three-day visit to see my grandkids — one relaxed idea per day.”

7. Brainstorm with me. “Give me ten name ideas for a small cat-themed craft shop.” Ask for more if none fit.

8. Compare my options. “I am choosing between two phone plans — here are the details. What are the trade-offs?”

9. Turn my mess into a list. Dump your scattered notes and say, “Organize this into a clear to-do list by priority.”

10. Quiz me or coach me. “Ask me five questions to test what I know about diabetes-friendly cooking, one at a time.”

A Tiny Trick That Doubles the Quality

After any answer, keep the conversation going. Say “make it simpler,” “give me an example,” or “why?” The magic is rarely in the first reply — it is in the second and third. Treat it like talking with a helpful friend, not like typing into a search box.

One Rule to Keep You Safe

An AI can be confidently wrong. It may invent a fact, a source, or a number that sounds perfectly real. For anything that matters — health, money, legal dates, medication — double-check it against a trusted source before you act. Think of the AI as a bright, eager helper who sometimes misremembers. You are the one who decides.

Start With Just One

You do not need all ten today. Pick the one that made you smile, paste it in, and see what comes back. Curiosity is the only requirement, and you have plenty. 🐱

Lo más difícil de usar una IA es la pantalla en blanco: ese cursor parpadeando que espera a que digas algo ingenioso. No necesitas ser ingeniosa. Aquí tienes diez cosas amables que puedes preguntar en tu primer día, listas para copiar y pegar.

Diez indicaciones para romper el hielo

1. Resúmeme esto. Pega un correo, artículo o carta larga y di: «Resume esto en cinco puntos simples». Ideal para despejar el desorden.

2. Explícamelo como si fuera nueva en el tema. «Explícame cómo funciona una cuenta de ahorro para el retiro, en palabras sencillas, sin tecnicismos». Siempre puedes añadir: «Ahora explícamelo como si tuviera doce años».

3. Ayúdame a escribir algo. «Redacta un mensaje de cumpleaños breve y cálido para mi hermana, a quien le encanta la jardinería». Un borrador es mucho más fácil de corregir que una hoja en blanco.

4. Hazlo más corto (o más amable). Pega tu propio texto: «Hazlo la mitad de largo, pero conserva el tono cordial».

5. Traduce esto. «Traduce esto al inglés, en tono informal y amistoso, como le escribiría a una amiga».

6. Organízame un plan. «Ayúdame a planear una visita tranquila de tres días para ver a mis nietos: una idea relajada por día».

7. Genera ideas conmigo. «Dame diez ideas de nombre para una pequeña tienda de manualidades con tema de gatos». Pide más si ninguna encaja.

8. Compara mis opciones. «Estoy eligiendo entre dos planes de teléfono; aquí están los detalles. ¿Cuáles son las ventajas y desventajas?»

9. Convierte mi desorden en una lista. Vuelca tus notas dispersas y di: «Organiza esto en una lista de tareas clara, por prioridad».

10. Ponme a prueba o entréname. «Hazme cinco preguntas para poner a prueba lo que sé sobre cocina apta para diabéticos, una a la vez».

Un pequeño truco que duplica la calidad

Después de cualquier respuesta, sigue la conversación. Di «hazlo más simple», «dame un ejemplo» o «¿por qué?» La magia rara vez está en la primera respuesta; está en la segunda y la tercera. Trátalo como una charla con un amigo servicial, no como escribir en un buscador.

Una regla que te mantiene a salvo

Una IA puede equivocarse con toda seguridad. Puede inventar un dato, una fuente o un número que suena perfectamente real.
